Cyclone Arnab is the big weather story in India on 27 October 2026. For food businesses, the important line is in IMD's list of expected damage. Not a forecast; follow IMD and local authorities.

What IMD said on 27 October

IMD National Bulletin No. 15, issued at 03:45 IST on 27 October 2026, said:

  • the storm was expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, close to Yanam, by the forenoon of 28 October
  • maximum sustained winds of 115–125 km/h, gusting to 140 km/h
  • heavy to very heavy rain over coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha on 27–28 October, with rain later spreading inland
  • expected damage including "widespread damage to banana, papaya and drumstick trees" and damage to horticulture and standing crops

Why fruit-led menus should check exposure

Banana and papaya are workhorse fruits for banana bread, smoothies, fruit bowls, papaya-based fillings and tutti-frutti style inclusions. If a share of your supply comes from coastal Andhra Pradesh, a damaged crop or blocked roads can mean short deliveries or price moves. We cannot predict either; the point is to check before it matters.

A seven-point supply checklist

  1. Map sources: ask suppliers which districts your banana and papaya come from this month.
  2. Confirm stock and lead times for the next two to three weeks, through Diwali on 8 November.
  3. Line up a second source from another growing region.
  4. Shelf-stable options: frozen fruit, aseptic purée or a ready fruit preparation can hold a core SKU steady.
  5. Spec check: if you switch format, compare Brix, pH, viscosity and particle size so the product does not change.
  6. Label check: a switch from fresh fruit to purée or preparation may change the ingredient list. Update it.
  7. Flexible menu: keep one or two seasonal swaps ready, such as guava or kiwi for winter.

Watch the data, not the rumours

Daily mandi prices are published through Agmarknet and reported by state outlets. For example, Gaon Junction's UP fruit price list for 27 October 2026 shows ripe banana at ₹2,860 per quintal and ripe papaya at ₹3,550 per quintal wholesale in Lucknow. Track the markets you buy from over the next week.
